“Birdwatchers” is a gift to Gabriella, the daughter of one of my high school classmates.  Gabriella goes to school with my daughter (different grades, though).  She’s a bit older than most kids I’ve made puzzles for, so I made this puzzle almost exactly like I’d make one for an adult, with the exception that the pieces are slightly larger at points (I normally would get 250-300 pieces out of this size image).

All the tricky features I put into adult puzzles are here - internal edge pieces, a split corner, an internal corner, non-interlocking edges, and dropouts.  A couple of firsts for me:  a figural on the edge and a “mini puzzle”.  The mini puzzle is based on a puzzle pattern from Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine.  I miniaturized it and put it into this puzzle.  I felt like I had a lot of control while cutting the figurals - this might be my best figural cutting to date.
